��About halfway back, I looked around. The sky was slowly lighting on fire, the ocean a dim copy. The waves were thrashing and colliding harshly against the jetty. High tide had been reached, and the water swelled onto shore. I looked towards the harbor, where the water was calm and quiet. A seal bobbed its head by the rocks below. It looked strange, but I couldn�t figure out why. The dim light made it difficult to see any details.
I scrambled down the rocks as quickly as I could to get a better look. I stood on a rock submerged in water reaching up to my knees. I could tell it wasn�t a seal, but it wasn�t a dolphin or a sea lion either. It was dark and light at the same time, sprawled out in the water. The current was pushing it towards me, and I nearly jumped out of my skin when I realized it was a person��
When the safety of humans and merpeople are threatened, both must strive to protect their people from the dangers of the deep and the people who would expose the ocean�s secrets.
