India is a largest consumer of the spices and also predominant country in spices production in the world. Lack of high yielding varieties, improper nutrient management and incidence of many diseases at various stages of crop growth, are the principal constraints to achieve high productivity of these crops. Yet crop losses due to diseases incited by fungi, bacteria, viruses and phytoplasmas, plays a major role in the productivity of spice crops. Integrated diseases management strategies involving the use of most effective methods need to be implemented for efficient management of diseases in these valuable crops. There is an urgent need for undertaking the detail studies in the development in the etiology epidemiology and management of controlling the various diseases affecting spice crops and to minimize the loss in the field, in transit and in storage. The pathological aspects of some important spice crops have been dealt in this book.

About the Author

Dr. S.L. Godara, Associate professor (Sr. Scale) In the department of plant pathology, College of Agriculture, S.K.R.A.U . Bikaner , has long standing experience in the field of education, research and technology transfer. He has been working of management of plant diseases of important field crops viz. mustard, groundnut, cumin, clusterbean and post harvest diseases of citrus, ber and guava fruits for the last eighteen years. He has published more than 20 research paper in national and international journal , four practical manuals and 50 popular articles. Dr Godara is a fellow of Indian society of mycology and plant society of the country. He has guided for M.Sc. Ag. and one Ph.D. students. He has attended many national and international conferences and presented his finding.



Dr. B.B.S. Kapoor Ph.D., F.S.Sc is working as a Associate Professor in P.G. department of Botany, Govt. Dunger College, Bikaner. He is actively engaged in research especially on Ecology of Rajasthan Desert and Medicinal plants of this region. He has published a number of research papers and articles in reputed scientific journals, magazines and books, conducted several research projects and has been supervising M.Phil and Ph.D. scholar. He has fifteen books to his credit. He is environmental thinker, educator and campaigner and is often invited by school, Govt. and Non Govt. institution and organisations to deliver lectures on burning environmental issues and herbal plants. He is on the panel of All India radio, TV & ETV as an herbal expert. He has participated in a number of national and international seminar, conferences and workshop. He has honoured with several state and national level awards in the field of popularization of science and research of medicinal plants.
