Disciples of Fortune
On August 02, 1934, Adolf Hitler becomes the Führer of Germany (meaning leader or guide of Germany) and the world is changed forever -- His mission for Germany starts with his internal policies against Germany's minorities, especially the Jews, and then extends to Germany's neighbors, until it leads to World War Two.

Hans Wette grows up knowing that he is special. But he never allows that to go to his head. Even the word Rheinlandbastard that haters heap on him as an insult fails to shake his faith in himself and his family. So, he navigates adolescence and emerges as a confident and purposeful young man with unshaken pride in his maternal lineage and his stepfather's position.

Hans starts doubting his place in the New Germany only after the rise to power of Adolf Hitler's National Socialist German Workers' Party on the 30th of January 1933 and the passing of the 1935 Nuremburg Laws. But he becomes deflated only after an attack by Nazi thugs. Nevertheless, when he decides to join his biological father in Africa, in the French mandatory territory of Cameroun -- the greater part of the former German colony of Kamerun, he is seeking more than a haven. French Cameroun provides him with a purpose in life as he joins forces with his father in realizing his African vision that is even global in scope. Now he must nurture the legacy of a man who is larger than life in the eyes of both his admirers and his detractors.

Josef Nana Njike integrates his German-born son into his family and business empire, and familiarizes him with his social and political goals for the land. However, as the ideas of the living legend unfold, the reactionary forces out to destroy his vision become more vicious until they finally find his Achilles Heel in his family. Nevertheless, just like him, his family survives in their audacious mission to sustain his legacy in the chaos that engulfs their world.

Disciples of Fortune creates a willing suspension of disbelief through down-to-earth characters, credible scenarios and an interplay of global forces that brings the story to life with alacrity and permanence in the mind of the reader.

The characters in this historical saga are exquisite as they navigate both worlds of good and evil with clear and hazy intentions. Even in their triumphs and failures, the quasi-conventional lifestyles of the characters portray the futility of their situations in an environment where life has absolutely no permanence or guarantees.

In this novel where noblesse, love, rancor, dignity, honor and hope are considered requisites for the advancement of humanity, sources of inspiration abound that are the hallmark of any great epic.
