Dalton Chetwynd is woken by a phone call from a voice from the past. His best friend has committed suicide. The news summons him from his ten-year exile out of the small coastal town of Southsea back to his hometown, Sedgley, where he must face the life he left behind.
In Sedgley there are memories. Some are memories of leaving school and facing the wide world, of camping and sitting around the fire talking about the future, of music and poetry, of swearing and joking, of smoking and partaking in drugs, of friendship and love. Memories of a youthful life lived in a small town in the post-industrial wastelands of the Black Country.
