Overview

The year is 1896. Andrew Chetney, a painter who struggles to express himself through his art, is in desperate need of a ticket out of Old Hampton, a small maritime town that is the very definition of foregone glory. Meanwhile, The Inn, a lowly tavern in the center of town is shook up by the unexpected visit of a handful of strangers. A forlorn figure with his face half-hidden underneath a Stetson hat appears to be awaiting the arrival of Jimmy Carnal, a young bourgeois entrepreneur in search of his missing wife. Outside, Henry Creighton, a rowdy do-gooder is caught out by an upcoming storm as he tries to battle his way to the establishment himself. With none of these people part of the regular crowd and all of them dead set on doing right by their own hidden agenda, they are bound to ruffle some feathers..."Despite The Whims of Men" explores the moral conundrum that is the thin line between right and wrong. What if doing the right thing puts other people in harm's way? What if shying away from violence only seems to beget more violence? At some point anyone could be forced to make a choice that might be a burden too big to bear...

About the Author

Dimitri A.L. Dekeyser, born in August 1990, is a true cinephile and bookworm. He is a personal trainer by trade and a writer at heart.

With a fond love for the English language and a good story, he commenced on a balancing act between two strong fields of interest. He draws inspiration from the likes of Edgar Allen Poe, J.K. Rowling, Terry Goodkind, but also Frank Miller, David Fincher, Quentin Tarantino and many other established household names both in the book and film industry. Slightly prematurely in hindsight, he had a first crack at writing a novel when he was only twelve years old and has now rekindled that flame.

He is a fiction writer with a preference for everything that relates to the human psyche, and that raises moral questions, preferably through the medium of a roman noir. Besides writing, he also enjoys playing the occasional guitar, drawing portraits, and challenging himself ( e.g. running a marathon) but spends most of his time philosophizing about life and the world with his friends and through the agency of the written word.
