About the Author

Aimilios Lallas, MD, MSc, PhD, is a dermatologist at the First Department of Dermatology, Aristotle University of Thessaloníki, Greece; he has published extensively on the use of newer technologies such as dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy to investigate and monitor dermatologic disease.

Enzo Errichetti, MD, MSc, DVD, is a Consultant Dermatologists and Venereologists at the Institute of Dermatology, "Santa Maria della Misericordia" University Hospital of Udine, Italy; his main research area is represented by the use of dermoscopy in the diagnosis and monitoring of non-tumoral dermatological diseases.

Description: This book focuses on dermatoscopic findings seen in inflammatory disorders rather than pigmented lesions. Clinical color photographs are placed adjacent to their dermatoscopic photographs. Pertinent findings are helpfully marked on the photographs along with a descriptive caption. An appendix shows similarly appearing conditions with tables summarizing differences in vascular patterns and other tips for differentiation.
Purpose: The purpose is to educate dermatologists in how to use the dermatoscope to expand their diagnostic skills.
Audience: The audience is dermatologists.
Features: The descriptions of visual findings seen with dermoscopy are correlated with the underlying changes that are occurring pathophysiologically. This enhances readers' understanding of what particular findings to look for under magnification. Often a list of abnormalities for a given disorder are presented without explanation, which gives readers' the impression that they are memorizing a random collection of changes that they will not readily remember.
Assessment: In some ways, inflammatory diseases are more challenging than pigmented lesions diagnostically. This book does an admirable job of helping demystify the process.
