Description: This a great general overview of all aspects relating to implant dentistry. It is divided into five sections covering case selection, surgical techniques, prosthetics, maintenance and hygiene, and the cyber office.
Purpose: The editor's purpose is to show how the field of implantology has exploded with huge leaps in technologies, techniques, materials, concepts, and philosophies of treatment. The book has met these worthy objectives and the editor has offered information about the future of implantology.
Audience: The book is expertly organized as an authoritative text for those who seek a complete understanding of implantology. It is targeted for all who are interested in implant dentistry. The overview can be appreciated by the student, resident, and beginning practitioner, yet its broad scope incorporates knowledge for the more experienced dentist, periodontist and surgeon. The editor is a teacher, clinician, and researcher with an international reputation for success, integrity, and a comprehensive knowledge of dental implants. He has assembled chapter authors who are both skilled with clinical expertise and have an up-to-date scientific knowledge of the specialties.
Features: This book presents a practical method of learning about implant concepts. Of most interest is its coverage of the clinical significance of such areas as immediate implant placement, temporary implants, and grafting materials. Much is explained through diagrammatic drawings, clinical slides, and case presentations. The only shortcoming, as is true with most books, is that some subjects cannot be comprehensively covered. Some topics that would merit an entire book are relegated to a chapter or part of one.
Assessment: This is a valuable book for the consummate student who looks for as much information on a subject as he can to gain a greater understanding. This book covers most of what one would want, in a general sense, about the current state-of-the-art of dental implants. It stimulates thought, adds tools to one's armamentarium, and presents the art and science relating to case selection, surgical techniques, prosthetics, and maintenance of dental implants. This is a first edition that I am sure will continue to grow with future editions as advances in the field are made. A must read and reference book!
