Ruan, an insider at the highest levels of the Chinese government, was a part of the liberal reform movement. Purged from the Chinese Communist Party, he fled to this country and is now a visiting scholar. Readers will gain a grasp of the modern political machinations at work in China, plus the struggle between the liberal and conservative elements of the party.
