Years after her mother passed away, Rae finds herself playing house with her stepfather. She finds the relationship unsatisfying and unhealthy. She plays the role of his wife without the physical aspect of intimacy. So, she tries to make him jealous by sleeping with her old high school boyfriend in front of him. Only, things do not go as planned, and Rae is forced to take control over her life.

Cal drove the two blocks. The house was dark and empty, and that made me sort of mad. Normally, Teddy stayed up and drank beer, watching whatever crap is on late-night television. I had hoped to cause a scene, but for whatever reason, my Teddy had gone to bed for the evening. Still, I planned to wake him up in the most unexpected way.
I led Cal up to my room, which is exactly across the hall from Teddy’s. I led him to my bed, but I left the door wide open. Quickly, our arms slid around each other, and I had firmly pressed my tongue into his mouth, tasting the beers he’d sneaked while working. Our faces parted, and I breathed into his neck. For a second, I forgot why I was seducing him. It had been so long since I had sex; I partly needed Cal on a purely physical level. I peeled the black shirt off of him, revealing a modestly hairy chest and a flat, well-toned stomach.
Once I had his belt unbuckled, I used the loosened strap to pull him to me and my waiting lips. For a long moment, we just stood there, making out like we had many, many years ago in high school, when I used to sneak him into the house after midnight.
