About the Author

On March 15, 2012 J. R. Hunter released a Christian book dealing with the spiritual aspects of drug abuse. This book, titled “Defeating the Spirit of Addiction” is a self publication which tackles the topic of drug abuse from a biblical standpoint. J.R. Hunter discusses the topics of the root of addiction, why it is so hard for addicted persons to be freed from the grips of drug abuse, and what Christian believers can do in this “spiritual war” for their family and friends.

J.R. Hunter is a veteran law enforcement officer with over 13 years experience in the narcotics field of law enforcement and has received several local, state and national awards for his work in investigations concerning his field. Hunter has been involved in narcotics investigations which have spanned the entire country and is an expert in the field of prescription drug trafficking, having given many presentations across the nation to law enforcement officers.

According to Hunter, he wrote this book in response to speaking with numerous individuals that he came into contact with through his career. Many of these individuals would be “spiritually defeated” and at their “wits end” in dealing with friends and family members plagued with the epidemic of drug abuse in our region. Hunter believes, based on biblical principles, that the only way to rid our society and region of this epidemic is for the Body of Christ to come together, intercede in prayer, agreeing with faith in the Lord, and believing in the restoration of our family and friends.

In the title of “Defeating the Spirit of Addiction”, Hunter adds the following; “Restoring Biblical Hope, Faith and Inspiration to Family and Friends of those trapped in the bondage of Addiction”. That is the purpose of this book, to uplift the families and friends and help them realize that all hope is not lost if they turn to Biblical principles and teaching found in God’s Holy Word.
