As Diane Ackerman ranges over a panoply of artistic, spiritual, and athletic activities, from spiritual rapture through extreme sports, we gain a greater sense of what it means to be "in the moment" and totally, transcendentally human. Keenly perceived and written with poetic exuberance, Deep Play enlightens us by revealing the manifold ways we can enhance our lives.

What People are Saying About This

Sarah Ban Breathnach

Why do I love Diane Ackerman? Let me count the whys: scholar, scientist, siren, scribe, Renaissance woman. My only concern in pushing this book into the hands of anyone who can still find a pulse is that after they put it down (if they can), everyone on the planet will be knocking on her door and asking if they can play, too. And then, of course, she'll have no time to write any more books.
