Overview

When you think of dayhiking, you probably think of ultra-fit 20-somethings carrying 50-pound packs loaded up with a ton of expensive gear. As Eric Wolfe shows you, this is not what dayhiking is about. Dayhiking is about going out into the wilderness, whether for an hour or two, or for the whole day. It's about exploring new places, and getting healthier while you do it. Dayhikers encounter wildlife, discover history, and make new friends. Best of all, dayhikers have fun doing it!

The fact is, anyone who can walk can go dayhiking, and can really enjoy it. Whether you've been dayhiking for years, or have never set foot in the woods, Dayhiking is the book that you need to move on to the next level. Dayhiking will show you how to find new places to hike, and find new people to hike with. You'll improve your mapreading and navigation skills, and will learn about the gear available to dayhikers, including which gear you absolutely need now, and what you may want to pick up later on.

Emergencies happen in the wilderness. Fortunately, most are easy to deal with, once you know how. The skills you learn in Dayhiking will help you to avoid getting lost, and will help you to find your way back to your car if it does happen. You'll learn how to be a better hiker and a better hiking partner. You'll even learn how to plan for The Big Hike.

Dayhiking is the first book in the Exploration Guides Hiking Series. Look for more books from Exploration Guides in this, and other Exploration Guides series.

We're all explorers. You just need the right guide!

About the Author

Eric Wolf was born in 1970 and has lived in the Great Lakes area most of his life. His early explorations led him through the local woods near the family farm, but that quickly led to hiking in state and national parks throughout North America.

Eric's explorations have included hiking on trails and off, canoeing and kayaking rivers and lakes, large and small, and exploring and surveying ruins and caves. He also has experience in archeology and anthropology. His favorite trail has always been the the one he hasn't hiked yet, but is headed there next.

Eric joined Exploration Guides at the start and works as an explorer and cartographer for Exploration Guides. Dayhiking is his first book, but he has plans for more.

Eric lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
