Interviews

"I was inspired to write DAY HIKES IN WASHINGTON STATE for the same reasons as my first guidebook over 15 years ago: To provide day-hikers with more detailed info than other books while painting the landscape along the routes in a way that people can read the listing and picture themselves on the trails whether they actually go on the hike or not.
Each entry is in essence a brief narrative of the sights, sounds, colors, smells, fauna and flora you will experience delivered in a package that’s practical enough to stick in a backpack without weighing you down.
And all 5 guidebooks have been promised and delivered in full living color between the numerous maps and pictures where other hiking books still fall short, even in 2021.
Though designed primarily for seasoned hikers attempting summits in mind, most outings from DAY HIKES IN WASHINGTON STATE include goals of subalpine lakes and wildflower-blanketed meadows with loop options for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.
There are no other guidebooks that give precise directions to all the trailheads from Seattle and Portland without being vague at some point or when an AWD vehicle is preferred. In short, I hope that DAY HIKES IN WASHINGTON STATE will remain the true hiker’s bible for decades to come!"
