About the Author

Moira Butterfield is a popular, internationally published children’s book author of non-fiction and fiction for all ages up to 11. She has been highly commended by the US Library of Congress for her work and her books have featured on the national UK school curriculum. Having had a passion for writing since she was a child, Moira’s work continues to inspire and excite her young readers.

Claudia Boldt is a German illustrator based in London. Having graduated from Kingston Universityin 2007 with a Masters in Illustration, she has gone on to become a popular children’s book illustrator.

Featuring 12 animals, this friendly, motion-centered picture book will get youngsters up and emulating a number of creatures’ movements: stretching like flamingos, leaping and bouncing like lemurs, waving claws like crabs, bobbing like baby owls, and more. Each spread includes one page that briefly introduces each animal in a simulacrum of its natural habitat as Butterfield employs the refrain “Get ready to be and... dance!” The facing page includes step-by-step instructions to the movements with accompanying art, so children can follow along. Stamp-like illustrations by Boldt in a light-colored palette highlight humans with googly eyes and varying skin tones (children of color have a stylized ashy tint). While the variety of animals showcased may not surprise, young animal lovers and those who like playing pretend will find much to entertain them. Ages 3–5. (May)
