Overview

"Don't thank me for my service. I didn't give it to you."

During the war in Iraq, a rowdy platoon of misfits sets out on a rogue pursuit of insurgents while struggling against bureaucracy, dishonest allies, each other, and their morals.

It's business as usual for the Hooligans, a US Army platoon deployed to Iraq in 2006, kicking doors, raiding homes, and capturing insurgents; when a mysterious device is discovered that makes the already rampant, roadside bombs even deadlier. With a lack of actionable intelligence from higher headquarters and little to no help from a paid informant, the aggressive platoon sergeant, Harrold Brannon, takes matters into his own hands and leads the Hooligans on a relentless quest to find the men responsible for the bombings. Frustration builds as Brannon's violent and unsanctioned means of intelligence gathering leads to dead ends and an investigation of the shooting of a detainee on a raid. But a lucky piece of information surfaces after the Hooligans respond to gunfire in a nearby village, prompting a successful attack on the alleged insurgent leader's home. Still, even the best plan never survives an encounter with the enemy. Combat isn't glorious. It's exhausting, filthy, scary, and riddled with bureaucratic malfunction. "Hooligans", inspired by David E. Hollis' personal experiences, exposes the ethical dilemmas faced by warriors focused on their mission. "Damn Hooligans" chronicles several months of the platoon's deployment and the pain of loss that only those who have fought for our country could imagine. It is a story of friendship, loyalty, conflict, and the courage to serve your country. And "Damn Hooligans" delivers...

About the Author

David E. Hollis:

Dave grew up in a small town in eastern Oklahoma that was little more than a fuel stop along Interstate 40. At the age of seventeen, he resolved that his escape from the purgatory of middle America would be to join the U.S. Army.

Throughout his Army career, he served in tough units, completed challenging leadership and tactical training courses, deployed to five countries, and led 189 combat missions in Iraq. His military experience and the soldiers he served with have inspired the characters and stories in his writing.

Dave retired from the Army in 2010 and has worked for the Department of the Army, the Department of Veterans Affairs and served on advisory councils for the executive certificate program, Transformative Leadership in Disruptive Times at both, The George Washington University and Seton Hall University.

Dave and his wife, Kasey, live in Virginia, where they enjoy life on the water, hiking, tending their vegetable garden and spoiling their geriatric hound dog.
