About the Author

I published my first paperback and eBook in May 2021 – grandly titled ‘Dad’s Guide – How to Invest in Stocks, Shares, and Funds’. That first book had been inspired by my 15-year-old when he mentioned that he’d like to invest in shares when he got older and that I’d have to show him some time. That passing remark triggered a thought that grew into the first book.

That first book was a very steep learning curve, and a lot of hours spread across eight weeks. I was sat in bed at 6.30 am most mornings with the laptop on my knee, and I was going to bed researching, writing notes, and brain dumping. I didn’t take a break, it was full-time, seven days a week, from the beginning of April 2021 through to the first proof copy on 12th May and publication on 20th May.

As I journeyed through the learning curve, I realized that the whole process was fundamentally straightforward and easy to replicate – if only I could remember what I did and how I did it …
So far, as a new author, I’ve only used Adobe InDesign for the covers and spine of my paperbacks, the front cover of my eBooks, and the main body of my first paperback. I used Microsoft Word to produce the far simpler Kindle eBook, and have decided to experiment using Microsoft Word to produce the main body of this second paperback.

This second book was completed within four weeks, while the Adobe InDesign experience was still fresh in my mind and notebooks – to help others and provide a neat reference guide for my future books!

Research, study, and new experiences have shaped my life. I’ve now started the next chapter in my life, deciding to retire from employment, moving into full-time investing, property renovation, and writing a series of books … the Dad’s Guide!

This Dad’s Guide is written with humor, but I’ve tried to avoid the Dad jokes – as I don’t want to embarrass my kids!
