CYBERSPACE and SECURITY
CYBERSPACE AND SECURITY
A Fundamentally New Approach

Cyberspace and Security clarifies how the laws of cyberspace are very different from those of physical space, and how they work in cyber security. Sheymov analyzes what has been fundamentally wrong with our legacy firewall approach to cyber security, and presents a new and effective approach to security in cyberspace.

"This book, CYBESPACE and SECURITY by Victor Sheymov, does a wonderful job in discussing the differences between man-made CyberSpace and the natural world in which we live. Sheymov uses these differences to explain how securing CyberSpace is vastly different from traditional information security. The book is written so that readers without a deep computer science background can readily understand the subject, and readers with a security background will find the concepts informative and thought provoking. I know of no other author who has the real life experience that Victor Sheymov brings to this subject, and would recommend the book to everyone as an easy and entertaining reading experience."

Former Technical Director, Information Assurance Directorate, NSA

“Drawing on his decades of experience with two of the world's premier spy agencies, Shemov offers penetrating and compelling insights into the challenges -- and opportunities -- involved in securing cyber space. A must-read for all -- from IT professionals and techno-nerds to policy makers
and corporate executives.”

Professor Sujeet Shenoi, Director of the elite Cyber Corps Program at the
University of Tulsa

In an era when everyone is applying techniques to secure cyberspace that have repeatedly failed, it is refreshing to see an approach that goes to the core of the problem. Victor Sheymov introduces security concepts to the cyberspace arena that he has gleaned from decades of working with national intelligence agencies. The result is a work of proven principles that is a must read for cyber security specialists, researchers and IT professionals.

Victor Sheymov’s comprehensive multi-disciplinary approach suggests a fundamentally new approach to security in cyberspace, using methods native to cyberspace, and his book lays out a foundation for an effective, feasible and reliable cybersecurity technology.

The book consists of three parts. The first part, Security, is a review of access security in the world of our physical space. This review shows the reasons why our efforts in access security historically have been reasonably effective.
The second part, Cyberspace, examines the specific qualities of cyberspace. It explains the fundamental differences between physical and cyberspace, and how these differences are relevant to cybersecurity.
The third part, Cybersecurity, shows that methods used in computer security for the last quarter of a century are fundamentally alien to cyberspace. It explains why our efforts to secure cyberspace so far have been completely ineffective. It introduces new approaches to cybersecurity based on methods that are native to cyberspace that can provide real security in cyberspace, as well as protect our critical infrastructure.
