Hubert (Plus Size Crochet) has built a career on designing crochet patterns suitable for a range of body types. In this full-length exploration of crochet shaping and design, she takes a close look at shaping crocheted garments to best suit four different kinds of figures. Each of the sweater patterns is written for the "classic rectangle," with suggested variations for the other three body types (triangle, inverted triangle, and hourglass). The reasoning is that the rectangle is the most common, and also the easiest to fit. While the tips for adjusting the garments for a flattering fit are handy, the suggested techniques are applicable only to a particular stitch pattern, so they're mainly useful for adjusting that particular garment (or another garment using the same stitch pattern). Sections on finishing and embellishment are helpful, but these topics are not necessarily related to fit. The patterns are professionally written and easy to follow, and the cardigans are modeled on women of all sorts of shapes to demonstrate the fit. VERDICT Though the garment patterns are pleasing, and there's diverse skill levels available, this unfortunately isn't the crochet version of Amy Herzog's wonderful books about fitting knitted garments. Still, crocheters interested in customizable, easy-to-fit cardigans may appreciate.
