Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Florida, Misuri, 30 de noviembre de 1835 - Redding, Connecticut, 21 de abril de 1910), mejor conocido bajo su seudónimo de Mark Twain, fue un escritor, orador y humorista estadounidense. Escribió obras de gran éxito como El príncipe y el mendigo o Un yanqui en la corte del Rey Arturo, pero es conocido sobre todo por su novela Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer y su secuela Las aventuras de Huckleberry Finn.
Consiguió un gran éxito como escritor y orador. Su ingenio y espíritu satírico recibieron alabanzas de críticos y colegas, y se hizo amigo de presidentes estadounidenses, artistas, industriales y de la realeza europea. William Faulkner calificó a Twain como «el padre de la literatura norteamericana».

Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), best known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an author and humorist noted for the novels The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (which has been called "The Great American Novel") and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, among many other books. Twain was raised in Hannibal, Missouri, which later provided the setting for Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, and he spent time as a riverboat pilot on the Mississippi River before finding fame as a writer.
