Overview

At the dawn of the 22nd century, the Rapture Virus has claimed over a third of the world's population. In the wake of this pandemic, futuristic megacities like Delphi, glittering, technocratic sprawls stand as bastions of safety and progress in an otherwise chaotic world. The epidemiologist, former WHO employee, and misguided idealist Richard Pythagoras Black (Py for short) finds himself out of prison on work release for one of Delphi's foremost progenitors, the morally ambiguous megacorporation Vergeron. Py isn't long at his new post when he stumbles upon a corpse in Delphi's Old Town district where a glimpse of a shadowy figure sends Py spiralling into a mystery beyond anything he could imagine.
Armed with Alice, a fledgling AI tailor made by Doctor Benjamin Whitechapel with a habit of bypassing secure systems, the help of the skeptical officer Logan Maxwell, and his own relentless obsession, Py begins a journey to crunch the data, following a trail of peculiar events never previously connected, revealing a sickness running through the very heart of Delphi.

About the Author

We were relaxing, gossiping as we so often did about… well everything. It was in that hypnotic haze of smoke and exhaustion found especially in Silicon Valley hookah lounges that we made the decision to do something together. It was some weeks later at one in a slew of 2am dinner meetups that we decided on that “something” being a writing project.
CRUNCH was born out of our desire to create a work that was our own. We thought at first it would be small, a story we’d occasional dabble in as a side venture. We soon found that half measures were not for us, that for better or worse we were more dedicated to our creative ambitions than we first realized.
We were lucky in that we were presented the opportunity to exit our previous vocations gracefully, without any of the drama or hurt feelings that so often accompanies transitional employment. We got to write. We were able to do what we dreamed of for so long, but were afraid to take a chance on.
As CRUNCH began to grow, its world expanding as whiteboards were filled, erased, and filled again with layout and lore, we had one of those unique watershed moments, a single foundational thought: we want to do this for the rest of our lives. Now, the lessons we learned in a fast paced tech startup were mustered toward our own personal goals. We only hope it’s enough to reach and inspire others.
