About the Author

Matthew Garrett is a Professor of History at Bakersfield College where he teaches United States history, Native American history, and Historical Methods. He is the author of the award winning monograph Making Lamanites: Mormons, Native Americans, and the Indian student Placement Program, 1947-2000. He actively researches and publishes in peer reviewed journals and has served on various editorial boards and professional committees. Dr. Garrrett also serves locally as the director of the Bakersfield College Liberty Institute. He lives in Bakersfield, California with his wife and three daughters.
