About the Author

ERICA SILVERMAN is the author of the Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa early reader books, the first of which received a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor. Lana's World is her newest easy reader series. She has also written many picture books for children, including When the Chickens Went on Strike, Big Pumpkin, Hanukkah Hop, and Don't Fidget a Feather. She lives in Los Angeles, California.

BETSY LEWIN is the well-known illustrator of Duck for President; Giggle, Giggle, Quack; and the Caldecott Honor-winning Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type, all written by Doreen Cronin. She lives in New York City.

Roping, riding, and herding are some of the chores and pleasures of ranch life for Kate. Cocoa, a cow pony portrayed with a distinctive, deep voice, would rather have cowboy boots than horseshoes and would rather play hide-and-eat than hide-and-seek. Narrator Liz Morton uses just a hint of a twang to bring these two likable pals to life, ending each of the four short episodes with a funny punch line. The measured pace of the reading, the page-turn signals on Disc Two, and the absence of any sound effects indicate that this story may be best enjoyed with the illustrated book.
