About the Author

Billy Joe Smith was born in the small town of Douglas, Georgia, in 1953. Most of his childhood and teenage years were spent living with his aunt and uncle on a small sharecropper farm in rural Coffee County. Living and working on the farm was the only life his mother's side of the family knew. Billy Joe now lives in Brunswick, Georgia. He worked for the city of Brunswick for many years as a firefighter but at the time of publication of this book was spending most of his time writing and visiting his family. He is currently battling significant health issues. He has two adult sons, Brian and Daniel Smith, who live in North Georgia, and one grandchild, Jack Briatt Smith, who is the apple of Billy Joe's eye.
