About the Author

Debra L. Haggins is the Chaplain of Hampton University. As the first woman to hold this position in the 144-year history of the university, she serves in a dual capacity as campus pastor and executive director of the nationally-acclaimed Hampton University Ministers’ Conference Organists’ and Choir Directors’ Guild. She served as the Interim Pastor of the Historic Queen Street Baptist Church of Norfolk, Virginia. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, a Master of Science in Secondary School Administration and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Higher Education Administration, both from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She earned a Master of Divinity in Theology from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, and is currently attending Hampton University as a doctoral student seeking to earn her Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership and Management. Haggins is the mother of three sons: Brian, Steven and Bradley Haggins.
