Features: The book takes the reader on a journey through the various stages and events both during and in between therapy sessions 33-49. The reader is given both the dialogue between therapist and client and between therapist and supervisor. This allows for a more well-rounded understanding of both the complexity yet utility of this therapeutic approach. The book has points for discussion at the end of each chapter, clearly making this an excellent tool in the training environment. There are reflections by the therapist and client at the end of the book as a way to sum up the experience of therapy. There are strong references, useful contacts, and further reading sections which add to the value of the book.
Assessment: This is a uniquely structured book that demonstrates the power and compassion of the person-centered approach in psychotherapy. The use of a fictitious dialogue beautifully illustrates the various emotions and reactions from not just the client, but the therapist and supervisor as well. Strongly recommended for practicing clinicians and for implementation in advanced graduate programs.
