About the Author

Dr. Cohn teaches in both didactic medicine courses within the UMC-CVM curriculum as well as the clinical block rotation of Internal Medicine. Other teaching duties include graduate courses in Clinical Veterinary Endocrinology and Clinical Veterinary Immunology, as well as Journal Club and conferences for house staff. Dr. Cohn has been the recipient of the George Dadd Award for teaching and the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians faculty achievement award. Dr. Cohn has also served as visiting professor at St. George University College of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, West Indies.

Description: This is a compilation of best practices for the treatment of small animal diseases in an easy-to-use format. The book is organized so that users need only to look at the table of contents or index to get to get the needed information. The website is easy to use with minimal searching required. The previous edition was published in 2015.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide a comprehensive book of clinically relevant topics in small animal veterinary medicine. It is meant to provide an easy-to-follow outline of best practices for small animal practitioners to have at their fingertips when looking for answers about cases. Things outlined in such great detail that practitioners need only to read the desired information and procedural outlines to complete a task. This is helpful as a ready resource.
Audience: The book seems to be targeted primarily at general practitioners, students, interns, and residents. It may have value to specialists for procedures that require a detailed outline that may not be readily available elsewhere. I agree that this is a book to improve day-to-day practice, and it meets the needs of the intended audience. Both authors and the long list of contributors are specialists in their respective fields.
Features: The book encompasses a very long list of small animal veterinary diseases, procedures, and client consent templates. The front cover outlines what is included in the chapters. The client consent templates are simple, easy-to-read documents for veterinarians to use in their everyday procedures. The algorithms at the end of the book can also be helpful for use as a quick reference to read on the go for practitioners and to help organize case management.
Assessment: This is a great book for veterinary students in clinics, interns, residents, and general practitioners. I have read previous editions and have been impressed at the depth of information and breadth of coverage. It is great to have an online supplement that is easy to follow and navigate.
