We know that we are one human race, descended almost certainly from a single homonid, almost certainly a female affected by an incipient event that occurred some five million years ago. What makes us so certain of this is our astonishing personal capacity of free-will and the creative imagination that it yields to us. These capacities, unique to us as humans, have emerged (by cultural evolution) as a consequence from that incipient event. They have enabled us as humankind to conquer the world. We may think of it as a gift. It is a gift that on the global scale with our science and technology has enabled us to become almost as Gods.
