About the Author

Dr SURENDRA PRASAD SINHA currently is Professor Behavioural Sciences-cum-Joint Director in Bihar Institute of Rural Development, an apex State institution of training and research located at Ranchi. Born in 1933, Dr. Sinha was educated at Patna University, Patna, and took his D.Litt. from Ranchi University. He taught in Patna University and was a Visiting Professor at Centre of Advance Studies. Anthropology Department, Ranchi. He served for three decades in Bihar Tribal Welfare Research Institute, Ranchi, where he published his work on "Life&Times of Birsa Bhagwan", "Problem of Land Alienation". "Santal Hool" Papers relating to Santal Insurrection", "Peasant Movement in Chota Nagpur" and "Munda Land System". "Tribal Gujarat: Some Impression", etc. He has a number of research papers and reports on tribes and their movements to his credit. He has edited volumes on "Impact of Industrialisation", "Tribals and Forest", "Administering the Prehistorics", "Educating the Preliterates". He is editing the Journal of Bihar Institute of Rural Development (Vihangam) and the Journal of Bihar Tribal Welfare Research Institute.
