Chapter 7: The Night Of Nights

I woke up around 2pm, and my phone was spammed with messages and notifications from Gavin, Zolie, and Kaine. Gavin and Zolie was mentioning me in prom tweets, and Kaine was texting me since 10 a.m., whilst sending me cute videos of himself on Snapchat. I had a feeling that today and prom night was going to be epic! I strutted to the bathroom to brush my teeth and take my hair out of this tight ponytail. I brushed my teeth twice, along with a few squeezes of whitening paste. I carefully slid the scrunchie out of my hair, and those beautiful curls were still in place. I walked to my dresser, and pulled out my favorite shirt. Of course it was my white, "Vote for Pedro" shirt, along with my ripped jeans. It was literally my signature look since freshman year, always washed, of course.

My phone was ringing and Beyoncé' blasted through my bedroom, Zolie was calling.

"Hello!" I sang.

"Hey girl, are you and Kaine coming over? We're gonna head to the mall today to chill!" Zolie said.

"Yes! He's walking over today; could you guys pick us up on the next street over?" I asked.

"Sure, see you in a few! Call me when he comes." Zolie said, ending the call.

I texted can and told him to meet me down the street from my house. My parents weren't home during the day, as always. This was the only way to not be lectured while leaving the house. I slid down the stairs, just for the fun of it all, and jogged towards the front door. I made sure to lock the door on the way out, and I was on my way to meet Kaine.

I strolled the streets of my neighborhood in search of Kaine, and he wasn't where I told him to meet me.

Why is he always late whenever we meet? Ugh! That's so annoying, be on time for once, dude.

I waited about for half an hour, still no show. I decided to go on Snapchat and randomly look at people's videos and pictures while I wait. Usernames were loading and I noticed user "KaineTheBrain22", had recently posted a few snaps. I'm not talking about a few hours ago; I'm talking about literally five minutes ago posts. I was pissed, who does he think he is? I double tapped the video to watch it, and what I saw.... Made my heart stop.

It was a Snapchat video of Kaine kissing some girl, they were both giggling and cackling while their lips touched each other. I noticed Kaine's hair was a bit different, it was short and spiky, he must've cut it.

It cut to another video of Kaine and the same girl lying in bed, it showed him placing small kisses down her stomach. The video was captioned "We're pregnant!" and I had gotten sick to my stomach. I quickly locked my phone as the tears streamed down my eyes. He had some BALLS!

Interviews

1. Yes, throughout elementary and middle school I was bullied for my size and the color of my skin at times.

2. I would explain to them the dangers of underage drinking at parties. There's so many terrible outcomes of drinking at a young age. Also, many teens fail to realize that if they leave their beverage unattended, someone can easily put something bad in it.

3. I wrote this book, because I felt like the teens of today needed a voice. There aren't enough teen books that address issues like, depression and bullying that are in the teen community. My hope is that the teens that read this book, feel as if they finally found a book that relates to them.

4. Yes, I have a few friends that are in the LGBT community. I've been friends with most of them for more than four years, and they are the sweetest people ever!

5. Bullies often want an audience and approval. We can take an antibullying pledge, take action, talk to other kids, talk to teachers or the principal, talk to parents or guardians, speak (and write) up, and get creative!

6. 79% of online and inperson bullying occurs with teens aged over fourteen years old. I wanted to write a book reveals the current issues that teens around my age go through.

7. People can direct frustrations, hurt, anger and difficulty at home or in class to someone by bullying. Lack of attention from friends, parents or teachers can make a person bully you, just to feel popular and seen as 'tough' or 'cool' and in charge.

8. There's not much more to Chloe's story, however, I've always considered to continue her story in college.

9. Yes! The film would definitely teach a few targeted life lessons.

10. Try to validate their feelings, don't ''call the persons' bluff'', and suggest asking for outside help, and watch for serious risk factors.
