Comrades at Arms
The three young men who met at the French Foreign Legion recruiting station were socially and racially utterly dissimilar, yet they soon became lifelong devoted friends. Alexander Zuboff was an indentured Russian peasant masquerading as a count, Frederick von Brandenburg a German aristocrat, and Jacob Stein a Polish Jew who was a petty criminal and murderer on the run from the authorities. Not only did the three build a true brotherly relationship, but serving five long years in the Legion forged them into the ultimate warriors for life.
They disperse at the end of their service--Alex joins the French army as an officer, Freddy returns to his family in Germany, to run its many businesses, and Jacques, as he is now called, emigrates to Argentina where he becomes the owner of a huge cattle ranch.
The trio goes through many dangerous adventures in the ensuing years, the most significant of which is that Jacque, because of his pure Aryan appearance, is asked by the American Secret Service to return to Germany and become a mole within the burgeoning Nazi hierarchy. To everyone's amazement he is successful at his task beyond their expectations and is able to supply the Allies with vital political and military information through to the end of World War II, thereby saving many lives.
Just before the end of the war the three, now no longer young and naive, reunite and continue their adventures in fighting the Nazi armed forces.
