Overview

2nd Edition - Updated and easier to use! Researchers agree that weight change in humans depends on age, gender, height, weight, activity, caloric intake and time on a diet, but an equation that predicted weight change in humans had never been developed. As a result, the public was subjected to outrageous claims like: "Lose 18 lbs in 3 weeks!" And this applied to everyone. What nonsense!

Most scientists also concurred that weight loss was governed by the first law of thermodynamics. Then fitness enthusiast Dr. Vincent Antonetti, an engineer and an expert in thermodynamics and computer science, reasoned that by applying the first law of thermodynamics to humans it should be possible to analyze of weight change in human beings. Professor Antonetti's goal was to develop an equation that predicted weight change in humans.

The first part of this book traces, in easy-to-understand language, his fascinating journey toward that goal. He was managing an engineering group at IBM. So he worked early mornings and evenings on the new equation. It took him two years to develop and verify the first and only weight change predictive equation. His results were published as, "The Equations Governing Weight Change in Human Beings," and appeared in the prestigious American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

But Dr. Antonetti went a step further. He used a computer to produce easy-to-use tables which provided diet options for a personalized weight loss program. The tables, coupled with sound diet information, were the basis for the original Computer Diet. At the urging of NoPaperPress editors he wrote an updated eBook version: The Computer Diet - U.S. Edition. The original Computer diet was critically acclaimed but we think this eBook is even better. The Computer Diet - U.S. Edition is a sensible, flexible, well-balanced plan your physician will approve of. It will be as valid years from now as it is today. Because The Computer Diet is a classic - and timeless.

About the Author

Vincent W. Antonetti, Ph.D. is an emeritus professor of mechanical engineering at Manhattan College. His technical specialties are thermodynamics and computer science. He is also a weight control and fitness expert who has lectured on fitness at IBM Management and Professional Development classes and often speaks on fitness and weight control.

Among his many publications is his highly regarded “The Equations Governing Weight Change in Human Beings,” published in the prestigious American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Recently, Dr. Antonetti coauthored "A Computational Tool to Simulate Energy Balance Components in Pharmacological Interventions," presented at Obesity Week 2016. He also coauthored (with Professor Diana Thomas) "Dynamic Modeling of Energy Expenditure to Estimate Dietary Energy Intake," Chapter 12 in Advances in the Assessment of Dietary Intake, published in 2017 by CRC Press. He is currently working with Professor Thomas on a paper tentatively titled "Why is it so Difficult to Lose Weight By Exercise Alone?"

Professor Antonetti is a life long exercise and nutrition enthusiast. Although a senior citizen he still maintains a vigorous physical fitness program - and has managed to maintain his weight to within one kilo (about 2 pounds) of the 70 kg (154 lbs) it was when he graduated from college, many years ago.
