Community: Discovering Why God Wants Us to Care for Each Other

"Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" (Genesis 1:26).

By nature, God is community. Humans are made to "image God." In the very fabric of our being there is the impulse to relate to others. So why is community so difficult to attain? What keeps us from embracing the kind of relationships that we are wired for?

In this book we will follow the beginnings and the development of community in the Bible. From the Old Testament, where the principles of community are laid out, to the New Testament, where the stories of Jesus "flesh out" the concept of community, it is in His interaction with the disciples, His encounters with people, and His teachings that we find the true purpose of community.

Troy Fitzgerald is the young-adult pastor at the Walla Walla University Church and director for Leadout Ministries. His wife, Julia, and two sons, Cameron and Morgan, live among the wheat fields and vineyards of the Walla Walla Valley in Washington State. He has a BA in theology and MA in education, and a PhD in leadership. He has authored several books and resources, including 20 Questions God Wants to Ask You, Discovering God’s Will, Live Like You Mean It, Out of the Shipyard, and the Christwise Discipleship series.
