Marcus Trescothick was born in Keynsham, Somerset in 1975. A left-handed opening batsman, he made his first-class debut for Somerset in 1993, his Test debut for England, against the West Indies, in August 2000, and has since represented his country in 123 one-day internationals and 76 Test matches, culminating in a historic 2005 Ashes victory against Australia that was rewarded by an MBE. Nicknamed ‘Tresco’ and ‘Banger’ (after his favourite meal of bangers and mash) he is married to Hayley and has two young children.
