About the Author

Jake started sewing in 1987 when she gave up her credit cards-but not her love of new clothes. In 1989, never having seen a real quilt before, she made her first quilt from a magazine feature. It was a horrible concoction but she saw potential in the process and found a new love. She remained a self-taught, compulsive closet quilter for many years, solitarily devouring how-to books and visiting shows to hone her skills. In 1999, while pregnant with her daughter and craving participation in the sacred sisterhood of the fiber addicted, Jake joined her first guild and mini-group. When Samantha was born, Jake found herself home all the time and started quilting up a storm-in between nursing and burping. She loves contemporary art quilts and traditional pieced quilts updated in today's fabrics. Jake teaches at area quilt stores and continues to develop projects and techniques for working with heavyweight interfacings, such as fast2fuse®. Along the way Jake also merged her love of paper and her love of photography by discovering scrapbooks. The idea of bringing together her love of words and pictures and presenting them in an attractive and lasting manner made her journalist's heart sing-and her husband sigh at his wife's new addiction. Married to Stephen for eighteen years, Jake lives in Simi Valley, California, with their daughter, Samantha, and three cats.
