Overview

Cold, Cold North originated one evening after dreaming up stories for a not-yet- two-year old child who asked for more, more. It was the Arctic story he wanted repeated and months later requested when he saw Grandmom. This childs picture book about Arctic wildlife is told with informative verse and introduces a variety of animals that are a living part of the Arctic landscape. The verse encourages the reader and child to express the feeling of the words while introducing some uncommonly spoken words. The flow of the verse is enhanced by crayon illustrations. About the Author

The Author has a keen interest in the Arctic and Inuit culture. The spark that drew her attention to the far North came at a young age. While sitting around the dining room table with family, she heard neighbor friends share their Arctic adventures. And from those spoken words distant lands came alive. Decades of reading, hiking, travelling, and photographing have encouraged her to continue learning about other cultures and sharing her adventures with others. Even though she has written non-fiction articles of interest, this is her first published book. Carolyn lives in Traverse City, MI with her professor husband, Stephen, and she is on the staff at the Dennos Museum Center.

CHAPTER 1

In the cold, cold North where the wind does blow, WHO-O-O-O and snow does fall.

Silently.

On the frozen land of snow and wind, the animals do live.

A fox, wearing its soft white winter fur.

A hare, watchful of the hungry fox.

A herd of caribou running across the frozen land.
