Description: This book provides a contemporary overview of approaches to androgen deficiency management, paying special attention to selected clinical states.
Purpose: The authors set out to present the basic science of steroidogenesis, clinical settings of hypogonadism, and testosterone replacement as a treatment for key indicators of health and quality of life. They nicely present the important paradigm shift that has emerged concerning the relationship between prostate cancer and testosterone treatment. These are new concepts worthy of a book.
Audience: The audience includes students and residents at all levels and practitioners in the fields of endocrinology, urology, internal medicine and reproductive endocrinology. The authors are nationally respected leaders in their field.
Features: This work covers the basic science of androgen regulation and development of the reproductive system in a focused and targeted manner, bolstered by clinical correlates. Chapters are devoted to the link between hypogonadism and sexual function in animal and human cohorts and present hypogonadism as a comorbid contributor to veno-occlusive dysfunction, Peyronie's disease, varicocele, and PDE5i nonresponse.
