About the Author

Dr. Bagheri is a dual doctor graduate of Harvard University (DMD, cum laude, class marshal) and Emory University (MD). He is an internationally recognized surgeon and leader in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS). His current and past positions include Division Chief of Northside Hospital in Atlanta, university faculty appointments, Editorial Board member of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Consultant to American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs. Dr Bagheri is an author and educator with over 100 publications including 10 textbooks, over 80 book chapters and 55 peer reviewed citations. His highly recognized textbook Clinical Review of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Edition 3) is used worldwide by surgeons and residents in training. He has been featured on TV and radio, with dozens of lectureships and seminars. A large portion of his patients are referred by other specialists including surgeons as well as dental and medical practitioners. His practice serves the metropolitan Atlanta area, although he frequently treats patients from across the United States and overseas.

Purpose: The purpose is to translate knowledge directly into patient care. The book simulates real practice by addressing common clinical situations that for experienced clinicians will resonate in their daily practice and for residents will set the foundation for their eventual clinical decision needs. The case-based model will enhance readers' knowledge and their retention of the material.
Audience: The book is written for oral and maxillofacial surgery practitioners, predoctoral students, and, particularly, residents in oral and maxillofacial surgery because it presents key elements of clinical care for each problem. It also can be used by dental practitioners, especially those evaluating lesions and clinical infections in their patients.
Features: Among the book covers are different types of lesions, drug reactions, drug-induced osteonecrosis and radiation induced necrosis, general anesthesia and airway management, infections, implant surgery, pathology, TMJ disorders, management of chronic medical conditions, oral cancer, and orthognathic and cosmetic surgery. The best aspect of the book is the way that it uses the 103 clinical cases in patient care to help readers use the didactic knowledge to make appropriate clinical decisions. Photographs and radiographs also enhance the case material.
Assessment: The book is easy to follow and is useful for oral and maxillofacial surgeons and other dental practitioners. Compared to other books in this area, this one focuses more on differential diagnosis and some treatment options. This update includes new illustrations, a new chapter, teaching cases, and real patient scenarios over and above what appeared in the previous edition.
