CLEARING THE AIR: Air Rage and Outrage - Volume 2 - The Pretrial and The Trial:'The Pre-trial and the Trial'
Volume 2 of 'CLEARING THE AIR: Air Rage and Outrage - The Pre-trial and the Trial' picks up the story where Volume 1 has ended in 2003 after a depiction of Greta's experiences within a hostile workplace following a violent in-flight assault which provokes an unexpected, persistent conflict with her airline employer. Moved by her conscience, Greta takes on the mantle as a whistleblower and after years of research into FAA cases; NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System studies and other aviation resources, she embarks on a mission to share her findings and to speak out to the problems of violence within the commercial airlines. She also lends support and advocacy to airline personnel, primarily, 'cabin crew members', who befall any kind of violence within the work environment. In 1995 immediately after a vicious kick-attack to her spine by a passenger; Greta's employer-airline initiates a pattern of ordering the protagonist into repeated unwarranted psychiatric evaluations under the threat of losing her several decade career if she does not cooperate. The mis-use of psychological and psychiatric evaluations by corporations is examined as the story advances. Volume 2 of 'CLEARING THE AIR' reveals a worst case scenario of failed 'crew resource management' while exposing the actions of a questionable vindictive crew and a violent captain who has a past history of assault and suicide threats. Under suspicious circumstances, the crew coordinates false reports about Greta which then force her removal from her last trip while also creating grounds for the airlines to order her into another psychiatric evaluation. Volume 2 follows Greta and her tenacious attorney through their several year litigation against the airline. The airline is exposed for not supporting FAR.91.11 and for other wrongdoing throughout the case history and a two-week jury trial: Greta Anderson vs. American Airlines, Inc. in 2008. Actual court transcripts create an indisputable, true record of this case.

About the Author

Greta Louise Saffin Anderson was born in White Plains, New York, in 1951 and was raised in Scarsdale, New York, other than two years of her youth when her family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended Marymount Secondary School in Tarrytown, New York, between 1964 - 1969. Greta spent her college years in South Bend, Indiana, where she split her classes between St. Mary's College and the University of Notre Dame, earning dual majors in English and Spanish Literature, a minor in writing and a Specialization in Latin American Area Studies, graduating in 1973. The author then worked at a satellite school of the Harvard Business School (MBA Program), INCAE - El Instituto de Administracion de Empresas in Managua, Nicaragua, arriving only months after the Gran Teremoto and remained through 1974. In 1975, after returning to the U.S., Greta was employed by American Airlines in the Chicago reservation sales office and by 1976 she transferred into the Flight Service Department of AAL as a cabin crew member where she remained and pursued a career until 2005. During this time, Greta took a maternity leave in 1986 and resided in Karen, Kenya, with her then husband while he was serving as a pilot for a major U.S. oil company. It was in Kenya that Greta connected with an old friend who was raised in Kenya and whom Greta had met in Connecticut between 1981 - 1983. In Kenya, Dr. Richard Leakey, the renowned anthropologist, was a neighbor on Mwitu Drive and with whom Greta enjoyed the privilege of sharing afternoon teas and visited his excavations by Lake Turkana. Through her close friend, Vivien, Greta nearly met the famous aviator and author, Beryl Markham, just before she died. Greta learned about Ms. Markham's book, "West With The Night", and became enamoured with this splendid autobiography after which she also attended the funeral of Ms. Markham. After a magical several months in Kenya, Greta returned to the U.S. and gave birth to her daughter. By 1991, Greta had a turn in her life events and became a single mother to two children after she had experienced domestic violence. The author evolved into into an advocate to domestic violence victims and lent support to the inception of 'The SAFE Program' for abused children, founded by Marinelle Timmons. After Greta was assaulted by a passenger in 1995, she dedicated her energies to advocating to improved flight safety; the adherence to FARs and to flight attendant rights with regards to incidents of unruly passengers.
