Gerald L. Maatman, Jr.
Gerald L. Maatman, Jr. is a Chambers-recognized class action defense litigator, an eight-time Law 360 Employment Law MVP (no lawyer in the USA has been selected more than three times), a nine-time recipient of BTI Consulting Group's distinguished Client Service All-Star, and a 2021 Legal 500 Hall of Fame inductee. Mr. Maatman is a Partner at Duane Morris LLP, where he chairs the firm's Class Action Defense Group. The author of seven books on employment law, he has written and lectured widely on all aspects of class action law and labor and employment law in North America, Europe, and Asia. Among his various cases, Mr. Maatman successfully defended the largest EEOC pattern or practice lawsuit ever prosecuted in the history of the Commission, the largest age discrimination collective action ever brought in Illinois, the largest wage & hour class actions ever prosecuted in Florida and New York, and the first sexual harassment class action brought by a State Attorney General in the United States. Mr. Maatman is also the author of the Duane Morris Class Action Review, a one-of-a-kind compendium on class actions in the United States. He is a graduate of Washington & Lee University (1978) and the Northwestern University School of Law (1981), where he has served as an adjunct professor in trial advocacy for 33 years. Mr. Maatman is based out of Duane Morris’ Chicago and New York offices, and handles the defense of class actions throughout the United States.
Judge Dickerson is an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department of the New York State Supreme Court, and the author of over 280 legal articles in the areas of consumer law, tax certiorari, travel law and class actions. He is also the author of Class Actions: The Law of 50 States published by Law Journal Press®.
