About the Author

From the Central African country of Gabon, author Zouga Oyono’s parents often shared with her the rich oral tradition of Mvett Ekang; fantastic histories of invincible people who never died, because they had discovered the secret of immortality. In time she came to realize that through these epic Mvett stories, she had been given the tools to navigate through life. An award-winning poet, Zouga has also published a book of her poems, The Promise. She lives with her children in Houston, Texas.
