The topic was chosen for the centenary conference because of the important contributions made to the field, especially in the infrared and submillimeter ranges, using the two telescopes built and operated by the observatory. Considering all manner of circumstellar matter except planetary nebulae, which had been thoroughly examined in recent meetings, the 70 invited papers cover protostellar and pre-main sequence (PMS) shells and disks; PMS outflows; high mass stars and ultracompact HII regions; the composition and chemistry of dust and gas; the chemical evolution of circumstellar matter surrounding young stellar objects (excluding Hollywood); late evolutionary stages of high mass stars; Asymptotic Giant Branch stars, PPNe, and PNe; shocks in circumstellar winds; and main sequence disks.
