Overview

During my 20 years as a producer and Assistant Director on over 1,000 TV commercials and movies, when I found myself in social situations telling bizarre or funny tales of my adventures in production, often someone would say, "You should write a book." At the time that seemed a daunting task and I often joked that if I ever did write a book it would be titled "Circumstances Beyond My Control" and now I've finally done it.

This book comprises the often hilarious, sometimes exciting series of stories about my adventures in the challenging world of film production. These tales will take you on a stimulating journey that will include an amazing variety of film assignments and locations throughout the US and Jamaica. It is a deeply personal and informative memoir.

Born in Tennessee, Ben Bryant moved to Hollywood at 13. After college he became an actor and singer in theatre, film, TV and director in theatre.

In '70 he joined Group One Productions of Hollywood. There he developed his production skills on projects from 2 man shoots to Carole King's Central Park concert with a union crew of over 100.

Until '89 he worked in film as a producer, production manager and 1st Assistant Director. In '89 he produced and directed twenty-two segments of a TV show, "Love is the Power", and a series of multi-camera "live" concerts. Since '90 he's been working solely in video and has produced approximately seventy-five half-hour TV shows, over three dozen concerts and documentaries, often writing, producing, directing, shooting and editing.

Ben has written two full length screenplays and has had several articles on editing and shooting published by Ken Stone's FinalCutPro web site. He contributed a chapter to DVisionaries' book "Transitions; Essays on the Craft of Editing". Ben finished his three volume autobiography in November 2104.

A member of the American Film Institute since '75 and the Directors' Guild of America since '79, he holds a B.A. in Theatre & Music from Whittier College.
