Overview

Welcome to the study of life! Encourage young readers to grow their knowledge with this Spanish-language life sciences picture book set. This unique four-book set introduces budding scientists to some of the most innovative female biologists and botanists, then dives into nature to explore the world and wildlife that surround us.

In the award-winning Las mujeres en la biología and Las mujeres en la botánica, students meet some of the most important figures in those fields and learn about their groundbreaking discoveries that changed the world. Next, kids will see food webs, ecosystems, and energy cycles in action in the beautiful book, Este es el Sol. And what life science collection would be complete without seeing how mammal babies journey from helplessness to maturity? Así crezco takes kids around the world as they see how babies gain the skills they need to survive and thrive. These books perfectly blend literacy, art, and science to nurture new life scientists!

About the Author

Mary Wissinger, author of Las mujeres en la biología (Women in Biology) and Las mujeres en la botánica (Women in Botany), was born in Wisconsin where she spent most of her childhood singing, reading, and daydreaming. She dove into storytelling through acting, singing, and writing (and writing and writing!). A former teacher, she can now be found at her standing desk in St. Louis, MO, writing stories that inspire curiosity about the world and connection with others. She is the author of the Science Wide Open Series and the My First Science Textbook Series. To learn more about Mary, you can check out her website, MaryWissinger.com. Elizabeth Everett, author of Este es el Sol (This Is the Sun), spent 16 years as a classroom teacher before venturing into writing. Inspired by her energetic youngster, Jalen, and his love for books, she took her background in education and meshed it with his childhood interests. The result was edu-tainment in the form of children’s books! She currently lives in Colorado with her family where they love spending time outdoors in the Western sun. Dia L. Michels, author of Así crezco (This Is How I Grow), is an award-winning science and parenting writer who has authored or edited over a dozen books for both children and adults. While her topics include science and math books for middle grade students, her passion is promoting attachment parenting and supporting breastfeeding. A popular speaker, she lectures frequently at conferences, universities, libraries, and schools around the country. The mother of three grown children, she lives in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, D.C., with five cats and a dog.
