Overview

My name is David Lee. No, I am not a writer. However, after 52+ years I have decided to put down on paper my experience in the US Army, and particularly Vietnam. The reason I named this book CIB is because that stands for "Combat Infantryman's Badge". I feel it is the most significant badge of honor. Even though I saw many Officers, NCOs, (Non-Commissioned Officers) and others wear this badge, I do not think they all saw any up close, and personal combat. This is not a story of a hero, or any Elite unit. This is a story of the infantryman. A story of one man's decent into the depths of hell and all the things that happened along the way. The CIB is not sought after. It means you are at the bottom of wars hierarchy and expendable. But those who possess it, and have earned it during times of war, know what it means, and like me will forever wear it proudly. I have changed all the names, including mine. I have also omitted some. I would say to protect the innocent, but I never met anyone in Vietnam who was truly innocent, and that includes me.
