The Chipmunks are a classic love it-or-hate it group -- you either love the high, chirping voices or it drives you to unspeakable acts of violence. If you like it, chances are "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Time Is Here)" is what won your heart, and that's certainly the centerpiece of Christmas with the Chipmunks, Alvin, Simon, Theodore and David Seville's first and best holiday album. All the rest of the album is devoted to standards, performed in the indomitable Chipmunk style. It has dated somewhat since its initial release -- not only do the arrangements feel tied to the early '60s, but the humor is impossibly corny -- but anyone who grew up with the record or feel that their children will love it will not be disappointed by Christmas with the Chipmunks.
