About the Author

Thomas Goodwin (1600-1679), an English Puritan theologian, was born in Rollesby in the county of Norfolk and educated at Cambridge. Known as "the Elder," he was the president of Magdalene College, Oxford; a member of the Westminster Assembly of Divines; and chaplain to Oliver Cromwell.
