Alfred Vhezha's first novel is set in precolonial times, yet resonates with contemporary Zimbabwe. The people languish under the tyranny of King Paradza. Pillage, murder, violation of the wives of even his loyal courtiers characterise his reign. It will take the courage of forward-thinking youth, such as Munyaradzi the son of vassal Lord Manyumbu, and his wife, Ndakachinyei, to lead the people towards a more peaceful, prosperous future. It will also take the evocation of the land's ultimate rulers. Events from Munyaradzi's family history, and his own actions, come together in the final battle against Paradza's evil reign.
