Overview

We are all children of this world, and entitled to respect as human beings. Struggling against the stigma of real and perceived differences, the children of immigrants are the ones who must make the bold step into the often tumultuous waters of a new culture. These three sample poems about newcomers include looks as the experiences of a son of African-American immigrants to Canada, as well as children of Italian heritage. Written from memories of my childhood in Ottawa, Canada, these poems illuminate and entertain, while driving inexorably to more expansive meanings. General reading.

About the Author

This child is 52 years-old, recently semi-retired, and ready for anything the world throws at me. My passions, apart from the obvious ones, include afternoon tea and crumpets, English Premier League football, and films starring Sigourney Weaver(!) My main challenge in living is writing a truly good poem. I hope to look back one day and see that I will have achieved that remarkable feat. Ciao.
