Overview

This interesting album features a variety of veteran jazzmen best-known for their recordings in the 1920s. Clarinetist Jimmie Noone, who was quite obscure by 1941, is in good form with a quartet during a radio broadcast, playing mostly swing standards. Pianist Richard M. Jones leads an all-star group on four blues-oriented studio recordings: trumpeter Bob Shoffner, trombonist Preston Jackson, clarinetist Darnell Howard, bassist John Lindsay and drummer Baby Dodds. This LP is quite brief in time (under a half hour) and is primarily for collectors of the era. ~ Scott Yanow
