About the Author

Maiv Txiab Vam Xeeb Yaj has been interpreting for more than twenty years. Maiv Txiab began her journey as a receptionist who was first asked to interpret at a health clinic to help many Hmong patients who faced English language barriers when they came to see their primary physicians. She also worked as a part-time Hmong interpreter for a mental health clinic with many Hmong clients who suff ered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from the Secret War in Laos.

Today, she currently works as an over-the-phone Hmong interpreter assisting doctors, nurses, social workers, and many other professional staff who work with Hmong patients.
